Tamil Cinema Box-Office report - 'Thupparvivaalan' clear winner of all September releases.
After March and June, September is the month which saw a lot of releases in Tamil Cinema this year. Since 'Vivegam' was released in August, many small budget films moved their release dates to September. There were almost 24 movies that released last month and of all those movies, the Vishal starrer 'Thupparivaalan' emerged as a clear winner at the Box-Office. Even Mahesh Babu and AR Murugadoss movie 'Spyder' couldn't stop the splendid run of this Detective movie.
The Gautham Karthik starrer 'Hara Hara Mahadevaki' and Vijay Sethupathi's 'Karuppan' which ended almost at the end of the month are also currently doing good business all over Tamil Nadu. 'Thupparivalan', directed by Mysskin is still going strong in theaters and had done a phenomenal business at the Tamil Cinema Box-Office in September.
Vijay Sethupathi had two releases in September:
Actor Vijay Sethupathi had two back to back releases this month. His film Puriyatha Puthir released on 1st of September and got very mixed reviews. The film couldn't sustain at the Box-Office and was eventually removed from majority of the films following poor footfalls at theaters. 'Karuppan' which released on 29th of September was received well by family audience and is currently doing decently well at office.
Critically acclaimed Kurangu Bommai:
The Vidharth and Bharathi Raja starrer 'Kurangu Bommai' which released on 1st of September received extraordinary reviews from all the critics. The movie which was directed by Nithilan had some extraordinary performances all the actors and especially from Bharathi Raja. The use of non-linear screenplay for story telling was also much appreciated.
Neruppuda, Magalir Mattum and Kathanayagan fate at Box-Office:
The Vikram Prabhu starrer 'Neruppuda' which released on Sep 8th didn't make any positive noise at the cash counters and ended up as a disaster. Vishnu Vishal who tried to repeat his success of 'Velainu Vandhutta Vellaikkaran' with 'Kathanayagan', grossly misfired at the Box-Office. The Jyothika starrer 'Magalir Mattum' received decent reviews from all, but couldn't sustain much on the screens due to the massive release of 'Spyder'.
Most expected Mahesh Babu's Tamil debut 'Spyder':
Inspite of big names like Mahesh Babu, AR Murugadoss and Harris Jeyaraj associated with the movie 'Spyder', the film did only an average business at the TN Box-Office. The film was criticized for the forced commercial elements and the below average VFX works. The film which was the debut for the Telugu star Mahesh Babu, failed to give him the right entry into the Tamil film industry. The Telugu version also was a disappointment as the film lost to Junior NTR's "Jai Lava Kusa".
Vishal Struck gold with Thupparivalan:
The Mysskin diectorial 'Thupparivalan' which had Vishal playing the lead also had Prasanna, Vinay, Bhagyaraj and Andrea playing supporting roles. The film was appreciated by the critics and the audience as well. The movie went on to become a success at the Box-Office earning it a Super-hit tag. Vishal also went on to announce the sequel of the film with Mysskin once again.
